People of Muharraq were out in force on Thursday (16th
Feb, 2006) to stage a massive cleanup operation at Arad
coast in Muharraq.
More than 300 people of all ages took part in the
cleaning up activity. The activity commenced at 9.30am
am and ended at noon.
The cleaning up activity was organised by the public
Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources,
Environment and Wildlife in conjunction with Bahrain’s,
National Environment Day.
It was organised in co-operation with the Muharraq
Governorate, government school students, individual
volunteers, various organization and personnel from the
Muharraq Municipality. MBM-Alam Flora with other private
organizations supported the event.
The event was a roaring success. During the clean up
about 240kg of rubbish was collected.
The Commission’s, head of public relations and
environment information department Zakaria Khunji stated
that they collected 20 garbage bags full of waste from
the coast and each bag weighs about 12kg.
He further added, “We cleaned up the coast and I hope
that the residents around here and those who come to the
beach will help to keep the coast clean”.
